InterFaith Hunger Project

You’ve worked your whole life. You’ve never been late on a bill and you take pride in your work. But, after an accident at work, you can’t seem to make ends meet. Being on disability is hard. After spending hours deciding which bills you are able to pay, you discover you only have $25 leftover for food and medication for the month. Then you remember the Catholic Charities InterFaith Hunger Project Grocery Store. You quickly relax knowing that you don’t have to go hungry in order to buy your medication.

The Catholic Charities InterFaith Hunger Project is a program that assists lower income individuals and families that are living on a low or fixed income. To qualify for the program, at least one person in the household has to be 50 or older or has to be receiving disability benefits. They also need to be able to show proof of income and photo ID, utility bill, or housing rental agreement.

Participants are able to shop in our Grocery Store to supplement their low or non-existent food supply. Many of our clients have to sacrifice things such as medication, utilities, or rent in order to pay for food. This program helps them to keep the money they would use for food in order to pay for other necessities.

Our Purpose

The CCIFHP provides a free monthly supply of healthy, nutritious food for those living on a fixed income — both those age 50 and over or those with disabilities of any age. This program is a life-saver for individuals with low income in The Texas Panhandle. Working with High Plains Food Bank, CCIFHP purchases food for its own small grocery store. Participants in the Catholic Charities InterFaith Hunger Project shop for and select food items allowing them to choose meals that supports the medical and dietary needs associated with the aging and on disability populations.

The CCIFHP has many volunteers who help with daily tasks in the store and make food deliveries to home-bound participants. If you would like to volunteer for this program, call us at 806-350-4640.

Donate to the CCIFHP

CCIFHP always needs and appreciates donations of groceries (both perishable and non-perishable), as well as financial contributions which we use to purchase groceries from the High Plains Food Bank at a reduced cost, as well as local grocery stores.

While we appreciate food donations, please be aware we can stretch your donated dollars further, securing more food for the same money you spend to buy the good to donate.
