Joseph’s Project – A Pregnancy Resource Center

began offering services to pregnant moms and families with toddlers late in 2022. High mortality rates for both infants and their mothers drove the decision to open the program. Obstacles, including lack of health insurance, prenatal care, and general support, add unnecessary burdens to the moms and young families.

Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle, through Joseph’s Project, commits its resources and expertise to facilitate access to crucial services such as prenatal insurance and care to reduce the number of deaths caused by a lack of the same. We are creating partnerships with healthcare professionals, counselors, and educators to build a comprehensive network that will fortify the foundation for families across the Texas Panhandle. We empower families through education, coaching, and guidance. Our focused assistance will be tailored to expectant mothers and families with children under three, encompassing healthcare, counseling, educational resources, and material assistance.

Through comprehensive and direct services, CCTXP aims to create a supportive ecosystem conducive to the well-being of both mothers and their children, where families thrive, guided by informed choices and unwavering support.

Joseph’s Project Volunteer Opportunities

Program Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Lunch Break: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Joseph’s Project is committed to supporting vulnerable pregnant mothers and families with children under the age of three in the Texas Panhandle. Below are volunteer opportunities available within our program:

1. Purchasing Assistant Service:

  • Visiting local stores to purchase necessary supplies for the pregnancy resource center (diapers, baby formula, wipes, etc.)
  • Skills Needed: Attention to detail, ability to follow shopping lists
  • When: As needed throughout the week (flexible hours)

2. Shelving and Inventory Support Service:

  • Assisting with stocking shelves, organizing supplies, and maintaining inventory of donated items
  • Skills Needed: Organizational skills, attention to detail
  • When: Monday to Friday, flexible between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (2-3 hour shifts available)

3. Bilingual Receptionist Service:

  • Answering phones, providing information to clients, scheduling appointments
  • Must be bilingual (English and Spanish
  • Skills Needed: Clear communication, professional demeanor, bilingual fluency in English and Spanish
  • When: Monday to Friday, shifts between 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

4. Diaper Delivery Team Service:

  • Delivering diapers and essential items to families in need
  • Skills Needed: Reliable transportation, organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively with clients
  • When: Every Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

5. Community Outreach Support Service:

  • Assisting in organizing and attending community outreach events to promote Joseph’s Project services
  • Skills Needed: Strong interpersonal skills, event coordination
  • When: As needed for scheduled events

Additionally Required Background Checks for Volunteers and Staff

The following background checks are an addition to the background run by CCTXP for all volunteers and employees of Joseph’s Project.

We are required to ensure that all staff and volunteers who work with Joseph’s Project complete these three background checks annually. Here’s a summary of the necessary background checks required :

1. Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Central Registry Check:

Purpose: To check for any history of child abuse or neglect in Texas

How to Complete:

  • DFPS has recently changed its clearance submission process that will affect how your staff and volunteers submit DFPS central registry check The notarized form is no longer needed, and each individual is now required to create a personal portal to access their clearance results, which should be received within three business days.
  • To get started, please visit the DFPS webpage link shown below explaining this change with instructions on how individual staff and volunteers can create an account. (https://www.dfps.texas.gov/Background_Checks/FAO/faq_abuse_registry.asp)
  • Please note that the previous six-month grace period for processing DFPS clearances is still in effect as we transition to this new system. If your staff or volunteers have been waiting for their DFPS results, they can try this new method to submit their clearance requests for a quicker processing time.

2. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal History Check:

Purpose: To check for any felony or misdemeanor convictions in Texas

How to Complete:

  • Register for a CRS Public Website Account on the DPS website and purchase search credits.
  • Cost: $3 per search, with an additional fee based on the payment
  • Important Notes: Results are instant and should be printed and permanently kept on file by the provider.

3. National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) Check:

Purpose: To ensure the individual is not listed as a registered sex offender nationwide

How to Complete:

  • Visit the NSOPW website and search using the individual’s first and last. https://www.nsopw.gov/search-public-sex-offender-registries
  • Cost: free
  • Important Notes: Results are Be sure to print and permanently store the search results, along with a copy of the individual’s photo ID to verify identity if needed. A copy will be kept in our HR and Joseph’s Project Director’s office for Audit.
